Outreach Programs: High School Engagement

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science manages the National Science Bowl®, and sponsors the NSB finals competition.

The National Science Bowl is a prestigious academic competition in the United States that tests students’ knowledge in science and mathematics. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the competition challenges middle and high school students in subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, earth and space science, energy, and mathematics. Teams compete in a fast-paced quiz bowl format that promotes teamwork, critical thinking, and quick problem-solving skills.

At Georgia Tech, we proudly host the Regional High School Science Bowl competition each year. The event brings together talented high school students from across the region to compete in an exciting and intellectually stimulating environment. Many dedicated Georgia Tech students volunteer their time and expertise to support the competition by serving as moderators, scorekeepers, judges, and event assistants. Their involvement plays a vital role in creating a professional and encouraging atmosphere for the participants. Our goal at the regional level is to identify the three highest-performing teams and advance them to the state-level competition, where they continue their journey toward national recognition. Through this event, we aim to inspire students’ passion for STEM fields, promote academic excellence, and provide a meaningful platform for young scientists to showcase their knowledge and teamwork skills.
