Recent technological advances have vastly improved our ability to collect and analyze complex neural data. Through imaging or multi-channel electrode arrays, we can now monitor the activity of thousands of neurons simultaneously. These observations show that the brain is dynamic and far from random, with populations of neurons exhibiting complex activity patterns. We've also gained a deeper understanding of the structure of neural circuits, though generating falsifiable models of neural activity dynamics from microcircuitry remains a challenge. The Sederberg group uses computational and theoretical methods to explore key questions about neural activity dynamics across various brain areas and species. While we are a "dry lab," we collaborate extensively with experimental groups.
