Letson Scholarship and Letson Summer Internships

The scholarship and internship bear the name of physics alumnus James Letson who financially supports this undergraduate research activity.

Restrictions: Funds support undergraduate research activity. Applications from physics and applied physics majors are accepted.

  1. Letson Scholarship Award: Salary Awards offer a $1,800 stipend (12 weeks at 10 hours per week, or Summer adjusted) to undergraduate students who are conducting research with a School of Physics faculty or adjunct faculty member.

  2. Letson Summer Internship Award: The internship offers a $5,400 stipend (9 weeks at 40 hours per week) to an undergraduate student who is conducting full-time research with a School of Physics faculty or adjunct faculty member. The Internship includes an additional housing allocation of $1,800. Both faculty members and students can initiate research projects, but the award proposal must be written by the student, and the student must apply by the established deadline for the semester in which the funds are requested. Funds are competitively awarded.

    Bearing the name of physics alumnus James Letson, the Letson Summer Internship provides a stipend and housing allocation to an undergraduate student who is conducting full-time research with a School of Physics faculty or an adjunct faculty member. The award proposal must be written by the student and submitted by the established deadline for the semester in which the funds are requested. Funds are competitively awarded.
