Access Files From Off Campus From Mac OS X

Using SMB Off-Campus With A Mac

How to connect to the physics file server from off campus or on wireless (LAWN) with a Mac.

Create an SSH Tunnel in the terminal application.

ssh -l jwallom -L

Make sure to replace [USER] with your username.

Once you have logged into the ssh server, open Finder, and click Go -> Connect to Server.

In the "Server Address:” type smb://localhost:4450/[USER]

Remember to replace [USER] with your username, or a network share on the file server you want to connect to. If you click the “+” button next to the server address, it will add this to the favorite server list for easy access next time. Click connect.

If all went well you should be prompted to enter your GT username and password and then launch a Finder window with your shared files.
